Multiple news sources say that a South Carolina woman died earlier this week when a beach umbrella flew and hit her.

A local coroner told WYFF that the accident took place at Garden City Beach on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

Horry County officials told The State that the wind made the beach umbrella fly away and pierce the 63-year-old woman while she was sitting down. Her name is Tammy Perreault.

The report says that Perreault was taken to an emergency room and died about an hour later, just after 1:30 pm.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Dale Trevathan told CNN that she died because the umbrella shaft hit her chest. The people who helped the victim during the incident were praised by the people in charge of Horry County.

“We know that a number of good Samaritans and doctors who weren’t on duty helped the victim right away on the beach. Their efforts to comfort and help are good and much appreciated “The State said that in the statement.

Thank you as well to first responders from Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Rescue, Horry County Police Department Beach Patrol, and Beach Services, Ltd. who offered emergency medical assistance and transportation to a local hospital, the message said.

Sherry White, who is Perreault’s best friend, said that she was the “most loving and kind person.” This is according to WMBF. Her family and friends started a GoFundMe to help pay for her funeral.
